worth a listen - Sagol 59

I wish these guys had a music video for their other song "Till the Fat Lady Dances ft. Noa Faran" - which you can find (along with other great songs, such as Leeches) on their MySpace page .
But this song, Move Forward (Lech Kadima) posted here is pretty good too!
You prob think I'm Israeli for a lot of my 'Worth a listen' selections - but I love promoting my fellow tribespeople when we come up with genius like this.
Sagol 59 is Hebrew Hip Hop the way I love it - just the right mix of rap + pop...

To book or buy, click here for JDub Records.

worth a listen - Mama Doni

I was cruisin in my mom's sheitelmobile (aka minivan - altho she doesn't wear a sheitel) the other day, listening to XM Radio Hannukkah when they played this fab song by an artist named Mama Doni. Thought it was pretty funny and had a good beat. Definitely worth a listen!

Click here for more Mama Doni - including a Chanukah song!

NOTE: You need Internet Explorer to listen to this. If anyone knows how I can make it play on Firefox, let me know!

worth a listen - new Shwayze Single!

I don't know what it is about Shwayze that makes me love their music so much.
Maybe because I like their laid-back style, mix of hip-hop and pop and acoustic guitar.
Maybe cuz Shwayze sounds like some made-up Yiddish-ism.
Their new song Rich Girls is sure to be a hit! (you know it's sure to be a secret anthem for Lakewood Bochurs) I couldn't find it on Playlist.com, so click here to listen:

You can also download their new Album here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?vwmdyywjmzj

hebrew love

Looks like my post on KNOB got some attention on the Israeli web!

I wish the quality on this video was a little bit better - but it's an awesome song by this Israeli duo, KNOB- individually known as Meital Patash and Niv Cohen.

They're getting famous - and this song and others make you want to get up and dance - Tel Aviv style!

For more KNOB (and better songs, although not all are Kol Isha-free) go to: http://www.myspace.com/knobteta

mm's playlist - update

I know some of my readers don't listen to goyish music or anything that constitutes Kol Isha - which is partly why I turned off the automatic feature on my playlist.

I'm trying to find more kosher music on playlist.com, but it's not too easy!

And besides - this is the stuff MM reallly listens to! It's kinda eclectic, isn't it? ;)

Like I said, feel free to suggest more music - or even a better program!

mm has a playlist!

like the songs? want to suggest a few more?

let me know!

Worth a listen - Ari Goldwag

I usually only listen to Jewish music right before Shabbos (gotta get in the mood!) or never.

But this guy Ari Goldwag has an amazing voice and it's nice to hear a song that has real meaning once in a while. (he was in the Miami Boys Choir - now he's all grown up! but he's married, ladies! is it just me, or do you also find a black hat a major turn-on?)

You can visit his site : http://www.arigoldwag.com/

Or just get the song, Finally Here right here:

Enjoy!

amazing

I haven't really been watching Dancing with the Stars this season, but I came upon this clip on YouTube and it's amazing. It's a special performance featuring Carmit Bachar (the Israeli PussyCat doll) and that girl from the movie Step Up.
It's insane.

How good is the music too?

The song is called Black and Gold by Sam Sparro. His Myspace link is : http://www.myspace.com/samsparro

And here is his music video:

Worth a listen

Fresh from the studio, here is a very summery new tune from Eyal Shacher - Lo Chashuv L'An (It doesn't matter to where). (remember - you may be going back to school, but it's still SUMMER!)

kenneth cole + matisyahu

So I was doing a little online shopping at work today (my boss is on vacay ;) ).

And I came across this ad.
It looks like Matisyahu is one of the new spokespeople for Kenneth Cole.

Click here to see an interview with the reggae star where he talks about his Bob Marley and Jewish roots:

Shoes + Good Music + Judaism = my kind of combo

Hope you enjoy it ;)

i can't help but love this song

You have to have been living in a cardboard box or just be super frum not to have heard Katy Perry's new single, I Kissed a Girl. (if one of the above apply to you, click here, but WARNING, sooo not Kol Isha Friendly: http://www.myspace.com/katyperry )
Is it wrong that it's become my favorite song this summer? It's so summery and bouncy and fun! The lyrics are soo wrong, but so fun at the same time! And no, I have not kissed a girl.....

Worth a listen - Tomer Yosef

Wish I had found out about these guys a long time ago!

Tomer Yosef is rap/rock/reggae/whoever heard of that combo??? It sounds strange, but somehow it works really well. Can you tell I have eclectic taste? But seriously, they are worth a listen!

Here's their Myspace link: www.myspace.com/tomeryf
My FAVE song is "LITTLE MAN"

Their latest song "עברתי רק כדי לראות" is fresh off the Israel Charts and hasn't made it to their MySpace yet, so click here to listen to it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=2jUSlOzjUtY

Worth a listen - Hadag Nachash

If you saw the Zohan movie (a supremely funny film, provided you're not offended by all the non-Shomer behavior) and you know your Israeli music, you'll know that a lot of the songs playing in the movie were from the famous group Hadag Nachash.
Maybe you'll recognize this one:

One of my faves is the Sticker Song:

Worth a listen - a ModOrth wins Israeli Idol

Boaz Mauda (בועז מעודה‎) won the fifth season of Kokhav Nolad (the Israeli American Idol) and came in 9th place at the 2008 Eurovision Awards. Boaz was born and raised in Moshav Elyakim, where he still lives. He is the youngest son of his mother, who became disabled from complications of his birth. He is a Yeminite Modern Orthodox Jew. (thanks wiki)
Not only is this guy cute, but he is also extremely talented.

Click here to listen to some of his hits: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mhx-jAy2z7Y&feature=related

He also has a great website: http://www.boazmauda.co.il/

Worth a listen - Quami de la Fox

Quami de la Fox first became famous when he interviewed the Beastie Boys when working at Galgalatz. Now he's one of Israel's hottest on the music scene as he combines a crazy mix of hip hop, rock and electric music.

Listen to "Pop Wars" and "Hofshi Hofshi" on his latest album: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=38918760
