clothes do make the man

According to a recent Canadian survey (sheitel-tip to my Montreal friend Estie), men and women "fantasize more about white-collar workers than such perennial objects of desire as firefighters, rock stars and models."
I can't say I disagree.
Men in suits are HOT.
Take any ordinary guy. Put him in a hot suit, designer tie, Italian shoes and you've got an instant stud makeover!
But boys - if you need help getting your look right (you know who you are!), may I suggest taking some tips from the latest edition of GQ? (unlike playboy, I buy this mag for the pictures) If you want to be Jewish and not spend $3.99, click here for the GQ Guide to Buying a Suit. (or here if you need a serious style intervention)

Meh, I like my hobo look. Cheaper too.

Ya, GQ looks great, you look like a million bucks after dressing with their advice. You are also a million bucks poorer, the recommend all the most expensive things. If I were a rich man I'd dress that way, but if I were a rich man my money would do all the talking for me and I wouldn't have to dress that way.

love it! see, it frustrates me that frum guys don't buy better suits. if, as in my community, you've gotta wear a jacket every day, and a suit on shabbos, why don't you put a little more effort in? all that potential wasted....

I wear a t-shirt and jeans, shorts in the summer, every day. On shabbat, no jacket in summer, too hot. In winter, it's cold so a jacket but could be white shirt and could be colored shirt.
At home, on shabbat, if I didn't go to shul because I'm sick, wife sick, etc, a kimono. And yes, I am wearing the kimono when guests come.

a kimono?!?!

Ookamikun said...

Yep. A Yukata to be exact. I have 2, one with kanji and one with dragons.

I like the english cut. I have a suit from Chester Barrie of Savile Row (ebay). I doubt my shoes are up to snuff though, they cost $9. Why do girls always focus on shoes? Shoes are the last thing I care about, as they're least likely to be seen. You girls have it all backwards. If you're going to judge a guy by clothes, start with the shirt and watch. Those get the most thought. Shoes are an afterthought for us. I sometimes go out in slippers.

i once heard that doormen in fancy hotels can judge a person by their shoes. so if you've got nice shoes... you've earned more respect

EsPes said...

frumpunk: shoes are not an afterthought for a lot of guys!
i do notice watches tho! so its not in vain :-)

Ironically, I like good shoes too. When I'm not wearing crocs, it's only nice leather shoes with laces for me.

Suits and jeans are the best things for guys to wear.

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

yea, suits give a professional look. I remember seeing pilots and others in suits and being impressed by it.

Espes: didn't know men could have that many types of shoes to judge by.

I never noticed watches or shoes or anything, on girl or guy. Unless they point it out or it stands out or if someone recently mentioned some item and then I see it on a person.

EsPes said...

babysitter- there are a lot of diff types of guys shoes- and each style can say something about him.
check out these diff types:

shoe 1
shoe 2
shoe 3
shoe 4

i can do this forever lol so i think ill just stop... i think u get the idea

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

Espes: I see the differences, but I'm not sure what they mean. Which of those are supposed to be good and which aren't?

I recognize the name Ralph Lauren, so I would assume that one to be a good one. Haven't heard of the other companies.

Ookamikun said...

I buy 1 or 3. 2 and 4 look weird.

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

does this have anything to do with the laces v. slip on aspect of it?

EsPes said...

babysitter- u havent heard of Ferragamo? hehe its alright

Ookamikun said...

I do like laces, though not the tying them part. The ones without laces always look weird to me.

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

Espes: I'll have to learn this stuff over time I guess. I guess cause my brothers aren't into this stuff, so I don't know about it.

Moshe: right, I think I remember you saying how you slip on your shoes without typing the laces. Or maybe that was LOZ, I forgot already, I think it was you though.

EsPes said...

babysitter- if u dont care abt that stuff, then dont worry abt it! maybe ull get a guy who also doesnt care!

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

Espes: I don't mind learning though, if it interests him, then it can interest me. If its somebody your close with then its always more fun.

In response to some girls noticing guys' shoes more than anything else, I think I can speak for most guys when I say that in regards to how guys views girls on dates, maybe their clothing suggests which Jewish group they're afliated with, but as far as attraction goes, if a girl is attractive she's attractive and if she's not she's not. And it doesn't matter how she's dressed (or how much makeup she has on).

הצעיר שלמה בן רפאל לבית שריקי ס"ט said...

"view".

Ookamikun said...

I disagree. From my point of view, it matters very much makeup on.

Girls, if you look in the mirror and you see a clown or a hooker, too much makeup.
