are jewish boys cheap?

I know there's a recession going on...

But how expensive is a phone card?

This boy I was set up with asked me if I had AIM...

I call him a boy because most men I know don't have AIM

Or bad long-distance phone plans

Or ask a girl to download skype

To save a buck

Even during a recession!

Google voice sounds like a better idea..
Aim... Is a NO NO...
Maybe he’s the computer geek type.

it sounds like these guys are a little socially awkward. instant messaging someone is much less direct and therefore much less scary than actually talking on the phone.

If its not on Facebook chat, its not a real shidduch.

Why do you assume it is because he's cheap? I know that I'm not able to present myself the way I actually am over the phone and am much more comfortable expressing myself to someone over the internet (whether it be aim, googletalk or that God forsaken facebook chat). Give the guy a break, he might just be shy!

i don't think i would take the socially awkward route here - i don't go for shy guys!
I'm sorry, but I think that shy people need to get over themselves - how do you get ahead in life if you can't even make a phonecall? How do you handle a job interview? Believe me, talking on the phone with guys is not something I enjoy doing. Not because I'm shy, but because if I'm going to waste 20 minutes of time, I'd rather be able to paint my nails and play solitaire while I'm doing it.

As for this guy - he specifically told me he had a bad phone plan.....Think he was lying?

So you'd rather date a cheapskate than a shy guy?

definitely not!

I don't know if you could label him cheap with just that, although sure does look like it at first glance. It certainly is odd to request AIM, especially if it is a setup. What were to happen if it doesn't work out, he'll still keep in touch/mssg with you through AIM?? awkward...

Regardless it is not gentlemen like to ask a girls AIM when it comes to dating. If you can't afford to call long-distance or use the phone to make it a personal experience, then maybe waiting until you can would be more appropriate. Looking for a mate is partially about the timing in life.
